O artigo enfatiza a importância da preservação do patrimônio cultural e da memória religiosa em Tambaú/SP, importante destino de peregrinação e romaria conhecido nacionalmente pela atuação religiosa do Padre Donizetti de Lima Tavares (1882 – 1955), pároco local. O artigo enfoca a dimensão do patrimônio material e imaterial como suporte do “turismo religioso” enquanto fenômeno atual de nossa sociedade. Aponta para a necessidade de construção de um diálogo entre a história da cidade e a dinâmica atual do turismo religioso visando garantir, para o futuro de Tambaú, a preservação de sua história e dos seus “lugares de memória”. AbstractThe article emphasizes the importance of preserving cultural heritage and religious memory in Tambaú (SP), an important pilgrimage destination known nationally for his performance of religious Padre Donizetti Tavares de Lima (1882-1955), the local pastor. The article focuses on the size of material and immaterial heritage in support of the "religious tourism" as a current phenomenon in our society. Points to the need for building a dialogue between the city's history and current dynamics of the "religious tourism" in order to ensure the future of Tambaú the preservation of their history and their "places of memory".Key words: religious tourism, memory, places of memory, urban renewal and preservation of cultural heritage.
