Resumo

Abstract The equilibrium position of an edge dislocation near certain types of lattice irregularities is investigated quantitatively, using the Peierls model of a dislocation. The external shear stress required to maintain equilibrium is calculated and the result extended to an array of like dislocations piled up against a barrier. The integral equation for the atomic displacements is linearized by a perturbation technique, the resulting equation being solved exactly.
