Resumo

New dental material attributed to Chilotherium intermedium from the Chinji and the Nagri formations of the Siwaliks is presented. Chilotherium intermedium is the most abundant rhinocerotid species in the Lower and the Middle Siwaliks of the subcontinent. However the generic allocation of the species has been changed several times in the past. A careful comparison of the newly discovered remains with previously described dental remains of Chilotherium intermedium and Subchilotherium intermedium by several workers has led the authors to consider Chilotherium as a valid generic name for the species Chilotherium intermedium and the synonymy of the genus Subchilotherium is proposed.
