ResumoAbstract The increasing interest in Chelidonium majus L. and its various metabolites (i.e., the isoquinoline alkaloids, sanguinarine, chelerythrine, chelidonine and berberine) has given rise to a need for a rapid and reproducible method for the standardization and evaluation of fresh C. majus extracts. Both quaternary and tertiary alkaloids can be isolated from vegetable material by means of ion pair extraction and the recovery of these compounds was found to be consistently greater than 90%.
