Resumo

The number of immigrant children and families continues to rise in the United States. Despite the growing numbers of immigrant children in the schools, there has been insufficient attention paid to the mental health concerns of these children. This article describes a multifaceted program, established five years ago in response to the complex psychological and social needs of immigrant children. The program is based in an elementary public school and is a joint partnership with an urban graduate school of social work. The program has focused on Latino immigrant children, because they represent the largest immigrant population in New York City. However, the principles of this program are sufficiently generic so that they can be replicated with other immigrant groups.
