Resumo

this paper analyzes how both literature and the literary text are presented in 11 to High School (ensino medio) students in Brazil in Portuguese textbooks. So, to observe whether the manner by which literary content was organized in these books either promoted or obstructed the relationship between the students and literary reading, and whether it contributed or not to form literature readers outside school and after graduation. In this context, three important elements concerning literary reading were approached, always focusing on the reader: the humanizing role of literature, the aesthetic experience and literary knowledge as cultural capital.
