Resumo

Abstract 4d electron excitations have been investigated in several rare‐earth metals (Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu, Gd, Dy, Ho, Er, Yb) by means of electron energy losses of a high energy (75 keV) electron beam. Experiments were made with a transmission electron microscope modified by the adjunction of a Castaing‐Henry dispersive system. The results of the measurements lying in the energy range between 120 and 190 eV agree rather well with X‐ray photoabsorption spectra and oscillator strengths calculated in an atomic model.
