ResumoThe son of German immigrants who arrived in Brazil in 1924, Frei Boaventura Kloppenburg (1919-2009) can be considered a leading representative of Catholic thought in Brazil in the years 1950 and 1960. This article analyzes his career from his trajectory in Revista Eclesiástica Brasileira from 1952 to 1971. This performance will be approached from three aspects: his work as an editor (1953-1971), his articles on spiritism, freemasonry and the religions of African origin (1952-1968) and its role as disclosing and analyst of the provisions of Vatican II (1962-1965). His biography can be related to the historical moment in which the Catholic Church in Brazil faced competition from various religious denominations, besides the need for adaptation to council rules.Key words: biography, religions, journal, History of Ideas.
