Abstract. Phenol is used to induce peeling of certain superficial skin lesions, for improving eyelid rhytides, and for total facial rejuvenation. Contraindications and complications of the phenol chemical peel are examined. Phenol solution formula and mechanism of action are described along with techniques for sedation, cleansing, application, and postoperative care.
