Abstract Suggestion, both within and outside of hypnosis, can influence many psychological processes, including cognition and emotion. Moreover, suggestion may account for many individual differences and promote the investigation of such mainstream fields as attention and memory. To be sure, exploring the power of suggestion will likely pave the road to a more scientific understanding of such psychological phenomena as motivation, expectation, and the placebo effect.
