Eucolite occurs in ejected blocks of agpaitic wollastonite-bearing nepheline syenite in the pyroclastics of the active carbonatite volcano Oldoinyo Lengai, northern Tanzania. An analysis of the syenite is given, and chemical, optical and X-ray data for the eucolite are presented. The agpaitic paragenesis at Oldoinyo Lengais is one of the few recorded instances of agpaitic rocks in carbonatite environment.
