Resumo

The talocalcaneal articulations consist of two completely separate synovial-lined cavities: the subtalar joint between the posterior facets of the talus and calcaneus, and the talocalcaneonavicular joint between the talus, anterior and middle facets of the calcaneus, and tarsal navicular. Arthrography of these two cavities in 12 cadavers and three patients better demonstrated their extent and lack of communication. In 20% of the arthrograms, there was visualization of the ankle joint following arthrography of the subtalar joint. Arthrography technique and clinical applications are discussed.
