ResumoAbstract A computer model of a single‐pass, rotary‐drum dryer with or without a centerfill flighting section, describes the drying behavior of wood particles within the drum. This part of a two‐part study examines heat and mass transfer, which are shown to be partly dependent on the pattern of particle flow and on retention time. Comparison of simulation results with drying data based on moisture content of outlet particles from a large‐scale rotary dryer was favorable, with a root mean square error of 22.2%.
