Resumo

Founded in 1968 by 14 couples whose lives had been touched by cancer, Concern Foundation is an independent volunteer organization dedicated to raising funds to support cancer research. Since its inception, Concern has grown from the original 14 founding couples to more than 10,000 contributors whose efforts have helped to raise over US$23 million for cancer research. Concern Foundation's small staff and diligent volunteers work to keep expenses to a minimum and, as a result, an estimated US$0.90 of every dollar raised goes directly to research. Today in the United States, 1500 lives are lost everyday to cancer. Each year, an estimated 550,000 Americans lose their battle with this insidious disease. It is widely believed that a concentrated focus on the human immune system is the key to understanding this killer and providing an eventual cure for most types of cancer. Concern Foundation is thus dedicated to funding promising cancer researchers in the fields of immunology, immunotherapy and other closely related areas of basic cancer research. It is the foundation's greatest hope that the cutting-edge research which it funds will soon make cancer a disease of the past and eliminate the need for organizations like Concern.
