ResumoABSTRACT The food habits of the johnny darter, Etheostoma nigrum. were studied in Stinking Fork, a tributary of the Little Blue River in southern Indiana. A total of 174 darters were collected and their stomach contents identified over the course of four seasons. Chironimid larvae and ostracod Crustacea were consistently the major components of the diet throughout the year. Ephemeropteran naiads, plecopteran nymphs, trichopteran larvae, hydracarina and other dipteran larvae made incidental contributions to the diet and seemed to follow seasonal availability.
