Cruise Tourism Development and Management

The islands have had a significant change in its economic model in recent years, to improve the supply for tourism. In turn this sector can involve a significant socio-economic growth to the area and, in turn, serve to strengthen other business activities. The main objective of this paper is to analyze the situation of tourism in Dominican Republic. The methodology consists of a combination of interviews, discussion groups and fieldwork. The main results of this study show that sun and beach tourism is the most important tourism in the country, but, there are some weaknesses, such as low inclusion of local people in tourism and deficiency of complementary activities in tourism. The results are shown through a SWOT analysis. For which we have the collaboration of different actors involved in tourism from Dominican Republic.
