ResumoIn the last decade, major advances have been made in unraveling the complexities of gene regulation in cells from a variety of organisms. Among the important tools in the arsenal of techniques used to analyze gene regulation are reporter genes, which, when linked to appropriate regulatory elements, provide insights into the levels of gene expression and the DNA segments that modulate this expression. In addition, such genes may also be utilized to follow cellular differentiation, cell lineages, tissue-specific gene expression and developmental gene regulation.
