Resumo

Light-scattering spectra of room-temperature liquid water in the region 10–400 cm−1 are presented and the isotropic component is derived. A comparison between H2O and H2S spectral shapes shows that the isotropic spectra of water arise mainly from interaction-induced mechanisms involving the first few terms of a multipolar and polarizability series expansion for the isolated molecule.
