ResumoCertain theoretic concepts are presented for the elevation in systemic venous pressure produced by manual pressure over the hepatic region in subjects with chronic congestive heart failure. This response, known as the hepatojugular reflux, is to be expected in any person with generalized systemic hypertension and constitutes further evidence that venous tone is increased in patients with fongestive failure. Experiments on subjects with chronic congestive heart cailure supported the existence of a generalized increase in venous tone in congestive failure.
