ResumoAbstract Emission spectra of two-stage cool flames of a mixture of diethyl ether and air with an equivalence ratio of four have been obtained in the spectral region 3·5 to 18·5 microns. Four emission bands corresponding to known vibrational frequencies for carbon suboxide have been obtained in these spectra. Two additional experiments confirming the presence of carbon suboxide in the products are described, and a reaction mechanism is outlined for the formation of carbon suboxide.
