Resumo

The effect of deflexion on the load-carrying capacity of rectangular section beams of rigid-plastic material and carrying a uniformly distributed load is investigated. Built-in and simply supported cases are considered and in both cases the distance between supports is constant, inducing an axial tension in the beam due to the deflexion. It is shown that the increase in load-carrying capacity with deflexion is quite large.
