This material appears to offer an improvement in therapy in selected cases. Fibrinolytic therapy seems to be of greatest value in patients with fresh clots; it is ineffective in the presence of clot organization. Further trial, including an exploration of the possible use of streptokinase for selective clot lysis, is warranted.Article HistoryPublished in print: Feb 1972 FiguresReferencesRelatedDetailsCited ByCatheter-directed therapies for the treatment of high risk (massive) and intermediate risk (submassive) acute pulmonary embolismJohn JHarvey, ShiweiHuang, RamanUberoi2022 | Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, Vol. 2022, No. 8Intra-arterial thrombolytic therapy in the management of acute and chronic limb ischaemiaHBarr, M J RLancashire, E P HTorrie, R BGalland2005 | British Journal of Surgery, Vol. 78, No. 3Intra-arterial streptokinase infusion in acute lower limb ischaemiaD J AScott, M GWyatt, Y GWilson, PMurphy, R NBaird, MHorrocks2005 | British Journal of Surgery, Vol. 78, No. 6Declining-dose Study of Reteplase Treatment for Lower Extremity Arterial OcclusionsFlavioCastañeda, James L.Swischuk, RuizongLi, KateYoung, BobSmouse, TerryBrady2002 | Journal of Vascular and Interventional Radiology, Vol. 13, No. 11Transcatheter Interventions for the Treatment of Peripheral Atherosclerotic Lesions: Part IKrishnaKandarpa, Gary J.Becker, M.G.
