Gain and visualization of the modes of a thermally stabilized HCN laser

Optimization of a 337 μm HCN gas laser involving long-term stability, choice of beam splitter (polyethylene) and maximum power has been carried out. The gain determination leads to a value of 4% per metre. In addition, a liquid crystal camera has been designed to demonstrate visually the characteristics of several modes of the cavity.
