Abstract A new extinct species of the Prosobranch family Aciculidae, Renea saccoi n. sp., a land snaildiscovered in the Middle Pliocene sediments of Villafranca d’Asti and Ceresole d’Alba (Pied-mont, NW Italy), is described. Its morphological affinities with the other extinct and extantspecies of the genus Renea are examined. The composition of the molluscan assemblages inwhich R. saccoi occurs and the palaeofloristic and sedimentological features of the depositssampled suggest that the new species lived in a forested environment with warm-temperate andhumid climate.Key words: Land gastropods, new species, Aciculidae, Pliocene, Italy. Kurzfassung Aus dem Mittel-Pliozan der Umgebung von Villafranca d’Asti und Ceresole d’Alba (Pie-mont, Italien) wird Renea saccoi sp. n., eine neue ausgestorbene Landschneckenart der Proso-branchier-Familie Aciculidae beschrieben. Morphologische Affinitaten zu den anderen lebendenund ausgestorbenen Arten der Gattung Renea werden diskutiert. Die Zusammensetzung derMalacozoenosen sowie palaofloristische und sedimentologische Interpretationen sprechen furein bewaldete Umgebung und warm-gemasigtes, feuchtes Klima.Schlusselworter: Landschnecken, neue Art, Aciculidae, Pliozan, Italien.
