Research Article| April 01 2012 Vladimir Jankélévitch's Philosophy of Music Michael Gallope, Michael Gallope MICHAEL GALLOPE is Collegiate Assistant Professor of the Humanities at the University of Chicago where he is a Harper Fellow at the Society of Fellows. He studies the philosophy and intellectual history of music and has a special interest in patterns of modernist self-justification in literate, semiliterate, and vernacular musical practices from Schoenberg to West African electronica. Articles and book chapters of his are published or forthcoming in Perspectives of New Music, Current Musicology, The Journal of Music Theory, Contemporary Music Review, and three edited volumes. His research explores the intersection of music theory, philosophy, and contemporary music with a focus on sound, signification, the senses, phenomenology, and critical theory. He is currently writing a book on acousmatic sound.
