ResumoThis paper provides an overview of the methods used to create a software library that supports digital audio, including Dolby Digital, Pro Logic, MPEG audio and linear PCM, using a 16-bit general-purpose processor. In order to achieve 20-bit decoding precision at a operating frequency of less than 40 MHz using a microprocessor equipped with DSP functions based on a 16-bit multiplier, we propose a technique that uses fixed-point DSP to reduce the execution cycles for a double-precision multiplications and butterfly operations and adds a microprocessor instruction to reduce the data transmission time. In addition, we have developed a single-chip Dolby Digital decoder that has a multimedia processor with 16-bit fixed-point DSP functions and implements Dolby Digital and Pro Logic algorithms, and have evaluated the effectiveness of the methods we have proposed.
