Resumo

The present paper analyzes the importance of welding process simulation using the finite element method and the most important requirements during the generation of models. It presents the size of the fused zone (FZ) and the heat affected zone (HAZ), and the grain size and hardness shape of a specimen welded by SMAW process, and cooled by air. A finite elements model, to simulate the welding and cooling conditions of the specimens, was created and the level of correspondence between the model and experimental results was studied. A good match between the limits of the fused and heat affected zones measured on the specimen and determined by finite elements model was found, demonstrating that this method can be used to calibrate the welding schemes.
