Resumo

The start of one of the main applied dimensions of psychology, that is to say the vocational guidance, takes place in Madrid at the Department of Vocational Guidance of the Institute of Rehabilitation for Disabled Workmen. In this department, doctors, psychologists and trainers will work together with the aim of achieving disabled workmen’s functional and professional rehabilitation. It is with this multidisciplinary work perspective, completely relevant nowadays, that the psychotechnics and applied psychology pioneers in our country like Jose Germain or Mercedes Rodrigo will start their work. In this work, we try to analyze the different contributions to psychotechnics developed by this Institute during a great development and liberalization decade for our country, being the previous years to the Second Republic. For that, we will resort to the revision of documentary databases and historical fi les, having had access to the complete collection of the Institute Memoirs that were published from 1924 to 1929. Amongst the referents that we will analyze, we will stress on the elements referring to the organization and running of 190 Maria Jose Monteagudo Soto / Mauricio Chisvert Perales the different departments of the Institute (medical, psychological and administrative), as well as on the work of its cabinets and workshops, the diagnosis and work instruments –for example the physiological form and the psychotechnical form–, the events developed at the Institute, like courses or seminars, the exchanges and visits of professionals from other countries, etc. This way, by means of the study on the work developed at the Institute of Rehabilitation for Disabled persons, we will be brought nearer to a period that advocated huge progresses and developments for applied psychology in our country.
