Abstract It has been shown that in calculating M w , M n , and M v values of a nonfractionated polymer from the weights and molecular weights of fractions, corresponding averages for the individual fractions should be used. In calculating higher averages ( M z and M z +1 ), the values of lower averages are also required. An analysis of errors which appear on neglecting these requirements, has been given.
