Resumo

The purpose of this article is toanalyze the dispute within different DetentionUnits of the Center for Adolescent Social Service(former FEBEM). Based on daily empirical obser-vation conducted in the Units – as a teacher at itsformal school in the Raposo Tavares Complex inthe city of São Paulo from 2004 to 2006 –, it asses-ses the dynamics and mechanisms of power in theroutine of adolescents and professionals working tofulfill the social and the educational measure.
