ResumoA SiMg bond replaces the CMg bond of standard Grignard reagents in the title compounds 1 and 2 . They are synthesized from Me 3 SiHal and pyrophoric magnesium in the presence of complexing amine ligands. The crystal structures of 1 and 2 reveal that 1 exists in the solid state as an associated complex, whereas 2 is monomeric and has a pentacoordinate Mg atom. equation image
