Resumo

Studies indicate that, during the formulation of the teaching and learning process, the datarelating to the students have seldom been considered relevant. Our objective was to describethe profile of the undergraduates entering in a health science course. The study wasdescriptive, quantitative and cross-sectional, and was realized in a Federal TeachingInstitution. A self-administered questionnaire was used, which was answered in a privatelocation, after the participants (or their legal guardians) signed the Consent Form. The finalsample consisted of 124 participants, mostly females (89%), 18 years old (34%), white(81,5%), 50,8% from Sao Paulo, with a maximum familiar income of four times the minimumwage (19,4%). Regarding the health profile, 35.5% were not engaged in physical activities, 2.4% smoked, 31.5% consumed alcohol, and 45.2% were sexually active. Most of thestudents were young, coming from high school, corroborating the general profile of Brazilianundergraduates. Descriptors: Students; Health Profile; Universities.
