Abstract The n ‐hexance‐soluble phenolic part of L. formosana contains at least fourteen components in which carvacrol, o ‐isopropyl phenol, m ‐isopropyl phenol and phenol have been identified by polyamide thin‐layer chromatography. A new diterpene phenol, shonanol, was isolated and its most probable structure was assigned as VIII from spectral evidence. Hydrothymoquinone derivatives which are the major constituents of Libocedrus decurrens (Heyderia decurrens) have not been found in L. formosana.
