The functional split between the centralized radio network controller and the base station (Node-B) presents new challenges and opportunities for implementing QoS control for HSDPA. In this article we present different options for implementing QoS over HSDPA ranging from quality-based HSDPA access control algorithms to QoS-aware Node-B packet schedulers. The article concludes with network performance results for different services over HSDPA.
