To the Editor: In their review of colonoscopic perforations, which was published in the August 1997 issue of the Mayo Clinic Proceedings (pages 729 to 733), Farley and associates alluded to only two treatment options for such injuries, laparotomy or observation. Our group1 and other investigators2 have reported successful laparoscopic management of colonoscopic perforations. To date, we have attempted laparoscopic repair in five patients. Four of the procedures, including repair of a 6-cm tear in the sigmoid colon, were successful.
