ResumoIntroduction The secretion of trophic hormones by the anterior pituitary is largely controlled by hypothalamic hypophysiotrophic hormones reaching the gland via the specialized hypophysial portal vasculature. For each of the pituitary hormones, there is a postulated releasing and/or inhibiting hormone. At present, the chemical structure of only three of these compounds (TRH, LHRH and somatostatin), all of which are small peptides, has been established.
