ResumoThe objective is to identify the influence of the economic, fiscal, demographic, social and geographical characteristics of the local communities in the propensity of the establishment of intermunicipal cooperative agreements about development. It is a descriptive study that relies on databases resulting from an institutional process of collecting data and information by the State Government of Sao Paulo: Cadastro de Arranjos Intermunicipais do Centro de Estudos e Pesquisas de Administracao Municipal - Informativo CEPAM e Informacoes dos Municipios Paulistas da Fundacao Sistema Estadual de Analise de Dados (SEADE). The study showed that the variables “belong to an urban area”, economic conditions (high GDP per capita), size (large number of inhabitants) and revenue from intergovernmental transfers influence on motivation/interest to cooperate in intermunicipal agreements aimed at development.
