ResumoTHE coccidiostatic activity of sulfadimethoxine and 2,4-diamino-5-(4,5-dimethoxy-2-methylbenzyl) pyrimidine mixture (Ro 5-0013) in chickens has been reported by Mitrovic et al. (1969). Marusich et al. (1969) have discussed its safety and compatibility in chickens. The present report deals with the antibacterial activity of Ro 5–0013, at coccidiostatic suggested use dosages, against bacterial diseases in chickens, namely fowl cholera, colibacillosis, infectious coryza and salmonellosis. MATERIALS AND METHODS The chemoprophylactic antibacterial studies were carried out in battery and floor pen trials. Battery trials. Day-old, Cornish Cross broiler chicks were used throughout these trials. Ten birds, evenly distributed by sex and body weight, were used per group. Each trial was repeated four times. The chicks, fed and watered ad libitum, were kept in electrically-heated wire floored battery-brooders throughout the experiments. Purina broiler starter mash, free of drugs, was used as the basal ration. The medicated feed was prepared by adding to the basal…
