Resumo

Most of the gouty patients are men. It is very rare that menstruating women suffer from gout. Within a research program 41 male gouty patients were explored with the psychoanalytic interview and with other methods. It was surprising that most of them had almost no possibility for a normal identification with their fathers. The emotional ties to their mothers were on the other hand close and intimate. Further relations as to the family situation and to the present social status are pointed out. In addition to the uricosuric effect of oestrogen psychodynamic facts in the sense of latent homoerotic characteristics are discussed for the explaination of the fact that most often men are affected from gout.
