ResumoIndirect assessment of peak VO2 from the Cooper Test in football players The aim of this study was to verify the validity of the Cooper test to predict the relative peak VO 2 studying junior male football players. For such, a comparison of a test in laboratory (non motorized treadmill) with a field test was carried through (Cooper test), correlating the values of relative peak VO 2 of the first one, with the distance covered in the second. We were using a statistics analysis of bivaried correlation, through the coefficient of Pearson. The sample was composed by male junior football players (n=16) with ages between the 15 and 18 years of age. Correlating the gotten values of relative peak VO 2 , in the test of the non motorized treadmill, with the distance covered, in the Cooper test, a significant association was found (r=0,75, p<0.01). Therefore, we may conclude that the Cooper test can be used for the evaluation of the maximum aerobic power. The peak VO 2 mean values (59.01+6,57 ml/kg/min) are within the reference values provided by the literature for elite football players.
