ResumoA simple positioning servo system using braking control of a brake induction motor (BIM) is described. The motor consists of an induction motor and an electromagnetic disk brake (EDB) in the same body. Two control methods cooperate together to attain precise control: sliding-mode control and fuzzy control. The controller consists of a position sensor (5000 pulses/r), a controller with a microcomputer (Intel 80286), and a chopper circuit that controls the braking torque by controlling the exciting current of the BIM. The microcomputer simplifies the circuits and permits flexibility control. Parameter identification makes the system robust and free from adjustment. The accuracy of position control errors obtained experimentally was about 0.4 degrees . >
