ResumoBy malignant laryngotracheobronchitis is understood an acute unspecific inflammation with great swelling of the mucous membrane and tendency to formation of viscous, slimy secretion, pseudomembranes and crusts, which in a short time may lead to obstruction of the air passages with fatal result. A brief survey is given of the clinique of the lesion, together with a report offour cases treated at the University Clinic, Department of Otolaryngology in the course of the past ten years. Three of these patients died, two were tracheotomised.Importance is attached to an early diagnosis with the aid of endoscopy, so that the correct treatment may be instituted as early as possible. It consists essentially of prevention of obstruction of the air passages by tracheotomy and removal of pseudomembranes and crusts, if necessary by repeated bronchoscopies.
