ResumoAbstract A method is described for the preparation of high molecular weight, soluble homopolymers from 2,6‐disubstituted‐1,6‐heptadienes. Contrary to expectation, the disubstituted heptadienes readily form soluble, high molecular weight copolymers with vinyl‐ and acrylate‐type monomers if dilute solutions are employed and polymerization is not too rapid. The absence of unsaturation in copolymers and their excellent solubility indicates that the disubstituted heptadienes polymerize by an intramolecular‐intermolecular mechanism even in the presence of reactive monomers.
