The author proposes a post-colonialist reading of Philemon. Initially he characterizes the colonialist reading of the Epistle in its range of negative aspects. In a second step, he proposes that a liberating reading of Philemon cannot be simply post-colonialist in the sense of “neo-colonialist”. An evangelical reading should be characterized as being anti-colonialist, so as not to make a pact with the practices and values that are based on exploitation and injustice, signs of the process of the colonialism of the white colonizer.
