Resumo

This paper presents the qualitative results of palynological analyses undertaken on a peat bog sedimentar section in the Lower Slope of northeastern Rio Grande do Sul State, Santo Antonio da Patrulha municipality. A total of 35 sampling units were collected, spaced in intervals of 3 cm, within 115 cm of the sedimentar section, whose basal level was dated as (14C) 4730 ± 50 years B.P. Diversifi ed, abundant and well preserved palynofl oras were recognized, represented by 95 palynomorphs, which are described and illustrated herein, including Fungi (18), Algae (5), spores of mosses (3) and ferns (10), pollen grains of gymnosperms (4) and angiosperms (55), as well as fragments of animal. Descriptions are accompanied by ecological information when relevant. This paper aims to contribute to the knowledge of the Quaternary palynofl ora in this portion of South America, as reference in comparisons and for the understanding of the vegetation succession.
