ResumoThis article analyses the second novel – Olhos de coruja, olhos de gatobravo – written by Luis Cardoso, who is considered the first novelist of EastTimor. The novel is narrated by a female character whose life story is deeplyintertwined with the recent history for the independence of East Timor, excolonyof Portugal. Gender and post-colonial studies are used as theoreticalframework for the discussion we aim to provide below.
