ResumoThe configurational instability of α-amino aldehydes is an advantage for dynamic kinetic resolution (that is, kinetic resolutions with in situ epimerization of the substrate) through the Horner–Wadsworth–Emmons reaction. For instance, rac-1 and the chiral phosphonate 2 yield the ester (S)-3 with 90% de. Bn = PhCH2, Ts = H3CC6H4SO2, R = CF3CH2, R′ = (−)-8-phenylmenthyl.
