ResumoThe present study aimed to diagnose and contrast the social economic conditions, before and after family settlement in two rural villages, Lageado and Roseira, in the municipality of Rio Negro, State of Paraná, southern Brazil. Those villages were chosen for their distinct characteristics of proximity to urban areas. In order to characterize the current socioeconomic situation, several field surveys were performed. The results showed that, due to multi-practice activities, the pluriactivity income increased in Lageado and decreased in Roseira. Regarding the pluriactivity income, the income from agricultural and cattle raising activities represented only 5.71% in Lageado and 11.26% in Roseira. Therefore, it seems that the greatest influence in the socioeconomic results of the families is directly related to the distance between urban and agricultural areas.
