ResumoSummary Neurophysiological studies of experimental pain were carried out on two severely depressed patients who complained of an inability to experience emotion. They had normal thresholds for stimulus appreciation but markedly increased thresholds for pain. These abnormal pain thresholds normalized with clinical recovery.
