ResumoAbstract A. detailed study has been made of the reactions between titanium alkoxides and fatty acids. The reaction of titanium ethoxide and isopropoxide with excess fatty acids results in a product which after acetone treatment corresponds to a mixture of TiO(R′COO) 2 (I) and O magnified image (II). The relative proportion of (I) increases in the product with the increasing number of carbon atoms in the fatty acid. Further it has been shown that the reaction is straight‐forward upto the formation of titanium dialkoxy‐di‐acylates. Diethoxy‐ and di‐isopropoxy‐palmitates of titanium have thus been prepared. The above derivatives interchange their alkoxy‐content readily with butanol and yield titanium dibutoxy‐dipalmitate. When the dialkoxy‐palmitates are treated with one mole of the fatty acid, a complex reaction occurs with the elimination of alkyl‐palmitate and formation of decomposed titanium derivatives. These observations throw fresh light on the mechanism of titanium alkoxide‐excess fatty acid reactions which have been described in an earlier publication.
